5 Wedding Speech Tips you NEED to Know!

October 2nd, 2008 admin No comments

5 MUST KNOW Wedding speech Tips:

Wedding Speech ExamplesGiving a Wedding speech at a wedding is a Big Deal, and it is not to be taken lightly! But with the proper help, you can give a proper wedding speech that will bring tears to the eyes of your listeners and last forever in the minds of your bride and groom!!

Wedding Speeches make people feel special and loved. But they can also turn into disasters when someone:

  • Makes their negative feelings known
  • Makes tasteless joke
  • Embarrasses themselves or someone else
  • Is so drunk they make a mockery of themselves.

Too much alcohol, harsh feelings towards one of the couple, or plain ignorance and stupidity can destroy a wedding speech and ultimately the Wedding itself! Here are some tips to get you through your wedding speech without making any of these dreaded mistakes.

1. Be Prepared!

Map out what you’re going to say before the day of the wedding. The more time you give yourself the better! Even better, create an outline and write it all out! On the day of the wedding there are so many other things going on. This will make it difficult to think clearly and remember exactly what you wish to express in your wedding speech.

2.Don’t Use Note cards!

This is not a business presentation! Your wedding speech is a touching talk from the heart! You will look like you lack confidence if your wedding speech has note cards!

3. Introduce yourself:

The beginning of your Wedding speech should start with a simple introduction of yourself and your relation to the bride and groom. This helps those who may not know you familiarize themselves and connect what you’re saying to your relationship with the bride and/or groom.

4. Use quotes:

Quotes are powerful! For your Wedding Speech, why not find quotes about marriage, love, trust, respect, family and other topics online and incorporate these into your wedding toast speech. This is an easy way to fill in lines and take up time while saying something that is meaningful and thought provoking.

5. Keep it simple:

Don’t go over the top with anything and try to keep your wedding speech brief. The shorter and simpler your speech is, the better. Speak from your heart and let it just congratulate and advice the couple. Let them know you love and care for them. That is all your wedding speech needs to do.

Start with these 5 pointers in mind, and go look for some example speeches on my blog for more inspiration for your special Wedding Speech! Good luck!

Best Man Speech Examples: How to give a Great Speech

October 1st, 2008 admin 1 comment

Best Man SpeechBest Man Wedding Speeches:

Have you just been chosen as the Best Man for a wedding and you are looking for a wedding speech example? The best man is an extremely honorable position to hold in the wedding party, and therefore, when it comes time to give your speech, it should be a good one!

Use the outline below to “fill in the gaps” and “personalize” it so the speech is unique and original. Take a few moments to reflect on unique incidents related to the groom and the bride to personalize it. The real art in your Best Man speech is finding the fine line between good humor and bad taste. Make sure that your speech does not offend anyone!

Best Man Wedding Speech Tips:

  • Your Best man speech should be planned and outlined with plenty of time in advance.
  • Let your love for the groom shine through your wedding speech and speak from the heart!
  • Dig deep for great stories and memories that you have of the groom
  • Avoid the awkward moments that some comments may have causing the guests to feel uncomfortable
  • Avoid letting your wedding speech embarrass the groom or the bride.
  • Treat the bride and the groom with the utmost of respect.
  • Limit your best man speech to about 5 minutes. Too short and you will not be able to contribute anything to the proceeding; and longer, you may start boring your audience and loose their attention.
  • Get hold of Example Best Man Speeches to get a few good ideas.

The Best Man Speech Example OUTLINE:

  1. Begin by introducing yourself and your relationship with the groom
  2. Show appreciation to the groom for giving you this great honor
  3. Compliment the bride on her beauty. (Great time for a joke about how you don’t know how the groom got so lucky)
  4. Go into more detail about your relationship with the groom. This is the perfect time for a funny story that you have about the groom.
  5. Mention some of the incidents running up to the wedding.
  6. Turn gears and speak about the bride. Any humor here should be directed towards the groom, never the bride.
  7. Wrap it all up by raising your glass and produce a powerful Wedding Toast.

The Best Man Toasts are, some say, the highlight of the wedding reception. I know when I was asked for the first time to be Best Man I was thrilled and very nervous at the same time! Everyone kept asking me all day, “don’t forget you lines”, “hope its funny”, “don’t forget to thank the bridesmaids” and it goes on…

Other Best Man Speech Tips:

As a Best Man, you have a few important expectations to live up to. Be courteous, funny, charming and sometimes “cheeky,” all of these qualities need to be conveyed through your Best Man Speech. You are the last to make toasts and speeches, and more often than not, the best man speech is what everyone remembers. So no pressure then.

Don’t let the duties of your Best Man speech scare you though. The real focus and attention is on the Bride & Grrom!! they are the ones that should be scared, not you. As the Best Man, you are given a bit more leniency when it comes to Wedding Etiquette, which will allow you to have some fun and throw tasteful humor into your speech, so take advantage of this!

Take a step back and ask yourself what you would want your Best man to say at YOUR wedding and go from there.

If you feel nervous, it is normal, but do not drink too much, it will not help! Also, have your first line memorized but nothing else…have your wedding speech come from the heart! Also, don’t bring the written speech up with you and read it word for word!! Boring! Practice your speech and present it to a friend or family member before hand and get their opinions.

When the big night comes, relax, have fun, and you will do great!

Wedding Speech Butterflies: Overcoming Fear

September 27th, 2008 admin 1 comment

Wedding Speech Butterflies! For most, their fear of Public Speaking is greater than death. In this article, we will discuss a few tips and techniques for overcoming your fear of delivering a Wedding Speech as well as how to give a killer speech that will be powerful and moving!

Stage Fright tends to set in for most who are asked to perform a wedding speech because all eyes are on you. What if you mess up or forget a line? Well, harnesses this fear and performing a speech at your best starts with a mindset.

It’s all a Mindset!

There are two things I want to discuss here, that if you change how you think, will dramatically reduce your fear. The first is this:

1) When you get anxious and nervous before your Wedding Speech, it is your body telling you that you are about to perform at your best! Thing about that for a second. The sweaty palms, the increased heart-rate, the nervous thinking…if you realize that these are all signs of your body adjusting to a difference of performance that will allow you “perform” better than normal, your wedding speech will be perfect! When the fear and stage-fright sets in…EMBRACE IT! Expect it and harness it!

2) Ok this is a big one! Discover your LOVE and PASSION. Why are you giving a Wedding Speech in the first place? Chances are, you are about to give a few kind words to someone who you love and care for a lot, whether it is a close friend, brother/sister, son or daughter, your feelings are strong for this person. If you let your LOVE for this person or couple become stronger than the fear, LOVE will overcome and the fear will vanish. So…instead of focusing on how nervous you, concentrate on how excited you are to finally convey your feelings for that special loved one in front of the closest friends and family. Say goodbye fear

Outline-Practice-But don’t Memorize!

The only part of your wedding speech that you should memorize is the first sentence and the last! The rest should be a general outline that you have already prepared in advance. TIP: The more preperation time and practice you give yourself, the more confidence you gain and the less fear you will encounter.

The problem with memorizing is that it is too easy to forget a line…then you are lost and your Wedding Speech will all go down hill. A general outline will give you specific topics to address so you can speak from the heart.

You do want to memorize the LAST line or the actual TOAST. Check out our other article on Wedding toasts for information on how to properly end your speech with a bang!

Wedding Speech Tips:

  • Stand up tall and hold your head high. Show confidence in your posture and make eye contact with your audience
  • Speak slowly and clearly while enunciating your words
  • Practice, practice, practice! And NEVER read your speech word for word!
  • Be Sincere! Speak from the heart and it will show! If you don’t mean what you say…don’t say i

Wedding Speech No-No’s

  • Don’t drink too much! This is an obvious one, but watch how much you drink BEFORE you give your wedding speech
  • Don’t talk too long. An idea time for your speech is 3-6 minutes. The longer your speech goes, the better the content must be. Stories always help keep people entertained.
  • Don’t result to poor-taste and inappropriate humor. A true master of the speech can interwieve the perfect joke for all audiences with a warm, loving comment. Make the audience laugh and then bring them back with a sincere, genuine comment from the heart.

Wedding Speech Final Thoughts:

If you love the individual you are speaking on behalf of, you have nothing to worry about. Realize that fear is natural, and that 99% of the audience is thinking: “Thank God that’s not me up there!!” If you want to break the ice at the beginning of your Wedding Speech, tell the audience that you are a bit nervous. The will show compassion and probably give you a polite laugh or applause…because they do NOT want you to be nervous or fail in your wedding speech! It is very, very awkward to watch a nervous individual speak!
